Our Polyaspartic Garage Floor Coatings

Have you heard about the new garage floor coating that is taking the industry by storm? It is one we are proud to offer here at Your Garage Cave. Polyurethane coating is a much more versatile and durable material than epoxy, and it is being installed in garages all over the country. We offer a specific type of polyurethane coating called polyaspartic floor coating, which we can install across Arizona. Today, we will go over this new and exciting floor coating we offer.

Polyurea

Polyurea is a chemical that is part of a subgroup of polyurethane. Without getting too technical, like epoxy, the polyurea manufacturing process uses a two-part component that mixes with a chemical catalyst to create a hard durable material. Not only is polyurea harder than epoxy, but it is also more flexible. This greatly increases durability, especially for a material that will often have to hold up multi-ton vehicles, and might otherwise break or crack. This material is used for more than just garage floor coatings, it is also used for spray-on bed liners, liquid containment lining, interior pipe coating, and much more.

Polyaspartic

Polyaspartic is a type of polyurea. Unlike other types of polyurea, which cure (dry) extremely fast, polyaspartics do not harden for anywhere from five to 120 minutes. If other types of polyurea were used for a garage floor coating, they would harden in the pot before the material could ever be applied. Thus, when you buy a polyurethane coating, you are also buying both a polyurea and polyaspartic coating.

Benefits of Using Polyaspartic Coatings

The two biggest benefits of polyaspartic coatings can be boiled down to temperature and time. Epoxy, the second-highest performing garage coating material after polyurethane, requires a certain temperature to install, greatly reducing the time frame for when it can be applied. Polyaspartic coatings, however, can be applied at temperatures anywhere from -30 degrees Fahrenheit to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. That means these coatings can be installed anytime. Additionally, because of the fast curing rate of polyaspartic, it can be installed and ready for use in just 24 hours, unlike epoxy which can take anywhere from three to four days.

These are far from the only benefits though, which include:

  • UV resistance. After a while, the sunlight will turn epoxy a nasty yellow color. But with polyurethane, this is not a problem!
  • A clear finish that is unaffected by moisture in the concrete.
  • Extreme resistance to damage from abrasions, heat, and more.
  • Lower chance of bubbles forming during the installation process.
  • Glossy finish that many homeowners love.

Unlike epoxy, polyurethane coatings should never be installed by anyone but a professional. Additionally, not all polyurethane is the same. We mentioned the five- to 120-minute curing time. If you think about it, five minutes isn’t enough to do a great job on a floor coating, so you want to be sure that the company you hire uses a quality polyaspartic.
